Aim Wild is an off-grid barn on an isolated farm in mid-Wales. Located 1.5 miles down a rough track and across a ford in the river. With no neighbours and big dark skies at night.
The farm has been a traditional upland sheep farm for hundreds of years. The land is interwoven with ‘green roads’—historic trails that lead over the hills for miles, a legacy from the lead mines of the area— they are ideal for mountain biking and walking. The only people you will see are very occasional walkers, bikers, birders, and maybe an off-roader on the other side of the valley.
Are you ready to embrace the solitude? Inquire today and start your journey into the wild.
Tucked away in the Welsh countryside, Aim Wild is situated 8miles from the coastal town of Aberystwyth, with the Pumlumon Fawr mountain range in the distance and within reach of nature reserve Ynys-hir and the Cors Dyfi Osprey Centre. A 30-minute walk takes you to Lake Craig-y-pistyll, with a waterfall and cliffs and home to peregrines and ravens. Traditional farmland birds like whinchat and yellow hammer are thriving due to the regenerative farming methods used on the 180-acre farm. It is also home to a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI 1101). Borth Bog is 8 miles away with its unique ecosystem and is recognised as a UNESCO biosphere reserve. The beach is good for swimming and possible for surfing, and at low tide, you can find a fossilised forest. The fields come right to the door, so expect to encounter roaming cows and local wildlife. In March 2024, a hare had leverets in the yard by the barn. And don’t worry, we will send precise instructions on how to get there when you book!
The accommodation is in a consciously renovated ancient barn, and this eco-friendly, design-led, fully insulated retreat provides modern comfort!
Beautifully equipped with two large modern bedrooms and one very spacious open-plan living area, solar energy provides hot showers in summer, and the wood-burning stoves heat the water in winter. The property boasts two bathrooms and a fully equipped kitchen with a gas stove and oven. Reclaimed wood and stone salvaged from the farm add a unique character throughout the barn.
The property is rented exclusively, ensuring complete privacy for guests. Aim Wild is a secluded hideaway. The separate farmhouse was home to Geraint Evans and lovingly restored by the family. Step inside and gain an insight into traditional hill farm life, see also the book about the house.

Aim Wild is deeply committed to social and environmental sustainability, creating a low-impact location for people to enjoy nature. The land is farmed by close family who manage the land as regenerative farmland. Together, the farm is managed with care to respect the traditional farming methods and maintained as organic while planting trees in areas suitable for regeneration. There is a leave-no-trace approach to the removal of waste materials and recycling, with all biomaterials composted, and visitors are encouraged not to bring plastic on-site if possible.
The barn is available to campaign organisations that would like to hire this unique space as a 'think tank location'. Please contact us for more details.

Bronglais Hospital, located in Aberystwyth, serves the area. Please note that Aim Wild has limited mobile signal and is not recommended as a retreat for individuals with underlying health conditions due to restricted access to emergency services.
I'm afraid no pets are permitted. This is to protect the local wildlife and preserve the natural balance of the surrounding environment. The area is home to sensitive ecosystems, including rare plants and animals, which could be disturbed by the presence of pets. This ensures that visitors can enjoy the beauty of nature while minimising their impact on the wildlife.
We do not currently charge for firewood, but please be mindful not to waste it. We use our own three-year-seasoned wood, which is felled, logged, and dried on-site. To date, we have planted over 500 trees on the farm.
Fireworks, Chinese lanterns, and similar items are not permitted due to the significant fire risk they pose to the surrounding natural environment and the potential for littering. The area is highly susceptible to fires, especially during dry periods, and these items can easily ignite vegetation, endangering wildlife and property. Additionally, discarded fireworks and lanterns contribute to litter, which can harm wildlife and degrade the natural beauty of the area.
The Wi-Fi is intermittent and should not be relied upon. Phone signal is unavailable in the barn or house, so you will need to go up the hill for reception.
Full directions for access will be emailed to you after completing your booking.
Please note that you will need a high-wheel vehicle and should be comfortable driving along tracks and through a river that turns into a ford. It is not advisable to arrive after dark on your first visit unless you arrange for one of us to meet you on arrival and guide you.
The local taxi firm can collect you from Bow Street or Aberystwyth, but this needs to be booked 24 hours in advance. If you do not have a high-wheel vehicle, we can arrange for you to be picked up and taken to the barn, but please note that returning to the car will require a 40-minute walk.
Birmingham is the nearest airport. The nearest train station is Bow Street (three hours by train from Birmingham). Bus connections are limited.
The barn is ideal for walkers. You can walk to Borth or up into the foothills of Pumlumon.
The barn is supplied with mains water, which is safe to drink.
Due to the barn's remote location, deliveries cannot be made. Unfortunately, there is no service from Deliveroo or Uber Eats here. We highly recommend that all food is bought before arrival.
By hand, there are no laundry facilities on site.
